extract/add , 2017 found metal and rubber objects, birch and pine tar, charcoal dust, sand, magnets, nylon string.

Working with found objects and hand made tar and charcoal derived from locally sourced wood, this work considers context, chance and indeterminacy.  Working intuitively with unidentifiable objects, this work continues my sculptural exploration of the possibilities of unknown objects.  Collecting materials is a significant part of the process, and for this work the experimental processing of birch and pine tar, and charcoal became equally important.

Combining found objects with tar bridges old industrial processes and materials with new, and it also was a way for me to represent this time spent in Roja, and a reconnection with my Latvian heritage.
